Trone Memorial Library Says “Hello September”

September is a busy time for you and the library. With school starting, the library turns its focus away from the fantastic Summer Reading Program we had, and focuses now on helping students of all ages with homework, reports, and projects. “Build A Better World”, the Summer Reading Program theme for 2017, was loads of fun for children of all ages in East Berlin. For the kids, 108,291 minutes were reported read by the 271 children who registered for the program. The library welcomed 939 children and their family members to our 38 programs this summer, or an average of 25 attendees per program. What a great use of the programming spaces we have at our lovely and busy library!

Speaking of our new library space, we are looking forward to several programs this fall. One trusty event returns, in our annual Colonial Day Books, Bags, and Bling Sale. After taking a two year break due to construction of the expanded and renovated library, the Colonial Day Booksale returns to the library next week, on Saturday, September 9th.  There are some new aspects of the booksale this year as there will be bags and bling to also buy this year. First, the booksale will not be held outside as it has in the past. The booksale will take place in the library basement during regular library hours of 9am-4pm.  Using the main library entrance, booksale shoppers can take the indoor staircase or elevator to the basement level to visit the booksale, where our helpful volunteers will help you find all the reading material you could possibly need. A bonus is the basement is dry and air conditioned, so you can shop in peace at your leisure. The popular $3 per bag of book returns all day and credit cards are accepted so come one, come all and find some reading materials to devour this fall. The bags and bling will be separately priced. Another change is the library will be open for business on Colonial Day with parking available in our lot for library and booksale users at no charge.

As one trusty event returns, I am excited to announce that the Trone Memorial Library will debut a new family friendly fundraising event this fall. We invite patrons of all ages to our family friendly Trivia Night to raise funds for the library. After the library closes to the public on Friday, October 20th, we will welcome all trivia buffs to join us at 6:30pm for trivia madness. A great event for the whole family, I can confirm the following four topics will be the topics of the trivia questions that evening. They are: Disney, Nature, Literature, and Pop Culture. This will be a team trivia event, so bring your team of 5 to play for $20 or individuals can play for $5. Individuals will be put into groups that evening. Snacks will be provided and there might even be some prizes for the winners, but you’ll have to come, play, and win to find out what they are! We look forward to seeing you at the Jean Barnett Trone Memorial Library of East Berlin this fall!
