Fall Features

Greetings from the Adams County Library at Carroll Valley!  Can you believe it’s October already?  Where did the summer go?  I love the cooler weather of the fall months and the beautiful autumn leaves.  It’s a great time for hot chocolate and a good book!

We have a lot of fun programs scheduled for October this year!  We will be having a Coffee and Classics movie series every Wednesday in October at 1:00pm.  Come to the library to see a classic movie have a cup of coffee with your fellow movie lovers!

On Thursday, October 12th at 7:00pm, Hilda Koontz, the Director of the Gettysburg Civil War Roundtable, will be presenting a program titled Unsuspected Heroines: Female spies in the Civil War.  This program will discuss the intrepid group of women who joined the “shadow army” of spies, smugglers and scouts during the Civil War.  These women took on extraordinary risks and changed the course of history.

The next meeting of the library’s adult book club will be on Monday, October 16th at 7:00pm.  October’s discussion book is the 2017 Adams County Reads One Book fiction selection titled “Kitchens of the Great Midwest” by J. Ryan Stradal.   Join us for some good company and conversation!

The first meeting of our library’s Cookbook Club will take place on Monday, October 23rd at 6:30pm.  If you would like to participate, first choose a recipe listed on our newest database, AtoZ World Food, from any country in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland).  Then make the recipe at home and bring your creation to our library to dine and discuss with like-minded home cooks!

Our teen book club will meet on Monday, October 30th at 7:00pm to discuss “Cirque du Freak: a living nightmare” by Darren Shan.  If you would like to attend, let us know and we will get you a copy of the book.  Bring a snack to share at the meeting.

Preschool storytime at the library will continue through the fall and winter on Tuesday mornings at 10:00am.  Join us for stories, songs, and crafts with Miss Crystal.  Bring your toddler and enjoy a morning at the library!

A new program we have recently started is our Babies & Books storytime on Wednesday mornings at 10:00am.  Babies and their parent or caregiver will sing songs, do fingerplays, read books, and have playtime.  It’s a great way to introduce your little one to the library!
