Friends Sponsor Open House at New Oxford Library

The New Oxford branch library is making changes, updating its look (slowly!) and has the good fortune of support from a strong Friends of the Library organization!

The Friends of the New Oxford Library are extending an invitation to an Open House at the New Oxford Library, located at 122 N. Peter Street.  The event is from 6:30 – 7:30 on Monday February 19th. The Friends of the Library want to take the opportunity to make the public aware of their organization and to let them know exactly what we do. This is not a fund raiser, but a “Friend raiser” with the officers and other members present.  “We hope to get people interested in joining us and will have membership brochures available,” says current Friends President Mary Lou Berg.  The Friends are eager to highlight what they have accomplished this past year and what they want to do in 2018.  Cookies and small bottles of water will be served. There will be a door prize as well!

As you walk in to the New Oxford Library you will notice one big change, digital signage.  The Friends of the Library have purchased a television and stick computer so that a slide show of the programs and services of both the Adams County Library System and the branch can be displayed.  In order to make this change, tall shelving was removed, the wall patched and painted and new shelving and the television mounted.  Thanks to the Piraino Family for spending a Saturday with us and preparing the space for its new look!

Another change has been to replace the copier, printer, scanner and FAX machines with an all-in-one machine.  The new stand-alone is more efficient and reduces the space taken up by four machines!

The library recently added two weekly storytime programs for families.  On Monday morning at 9:30, join us for Babies and Books Storytime.  This weekly program is for babies from birth to two years old along with their caregivers.  Also on Monday mornings, at 10:30, is Toddler Storytime for children two and three years old.  Siblings are always welcome to attend and participate!

These programs, along with knitting, monthly book discussions and Science-Technology-Engineering-Math (STEM) programs make the New Oxford Library the place to be for learning and fun.  The library also offers five computers with Microsoft Office and internet access for public use.  Library users can also bring their own devices and use the library’s free wifi.

Please visit your New Oxford Library and take advantage of all of the offerings – materials, computers and wifi, programs and services!  The Library is located at 122 N. Peter Street.  717-624-2182.  Library hours are Monday and Thursday 2pm – 8pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 11am – 5pm and Saturday 10am – 4pm.
